Boston Scientific Divests BTG Specialty Pharmaceuticals Business

In November 2018, Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) purchased BTG plc for $4.8 billion, according to search results in our Healthcare Deal Database. BTG develops and commercializes products used in minimally-invasive procedures targeting cancer and vascular diseases. However, the company also had an acute care pharmaceutical division, which based on recent deal activity, it seemed the medical device giant wasn’t too interested in holding onto the non-medical device portions of BTG. Believe it or not, 2020 is over in just a few short weeks. Although most of our attention has been absorbed by the pandemic, the presidential election and an endless amount of Zoom calls at work, the healthcare M&A market managed to pull off some eye-catching surprises. Physician Medical Group M&A Recovers Quickly

Physician Medical Group M&A Recovers Quickly

Like most other healthcare sectors, the Physician Medical Group market was hit hard when the coronavirus pandemic arrived in March 2020. Deal activity across the board came to a sudden halt in mid-March, except for deals that were far along in the sales process. Everyone from buyers to bankers sat back to assess what was going on as whole regions of the country went into social and economic lockdown until May. Months later, things don’t look as bad as they could have. Deal flow across all healthcare sectors through the end of November 2020 was down 18% compared with the same period in 2019 (1,374 deals vs. 1,667, respectively). The second and third quarters bore the brunt of the panic,... Read More »
