Walgreens Makes Majority Investments in VillageMD and CareCentrix
Walgreens Boots Alliance announced two major investments in home-based care on October 14, totaling $5.5 billion. The first is a $5.2 billion investment in VillageMD, which advances an already significant partnership between the two companies that was established in 2019. Walgreens is also making a $330 million investment in CareCentrix, a health-at-home solutions company founded in 1996. Best Buy Acquires Care-At-Home Platform Current Health
On Tuesday, the retail giant Best Buy announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the home care and remote monitoring platform Current Health in an effort “to help make home the center of health,” according to the company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Addus HomeCare Corporation (NASDAQ: ADUS), a provider of home care services based in Frisco, TX, announced that it has completed the acquisition of in-home health care agency Summit Home Health, LLC, effective October 1, 2021. The transaction was funded by Addus with cash on hand. Headquartered in Bolingbrook, IL, Summit has been providing in-home health care to patients across the greater Chicago area since 2009. The national home health chain Senior Helpers has announced the acquisition of Miller Home Care, LLC, a home health agency based in Milwaukee. Miller Home Care provides in-home senior care, offering services ranging from companion care for seniors who need daily assistance to in-depth specialized care for those with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s and other chronic diseases. Charter Health Care Group Expands in Texas
The private equity-backed Charter Health Care Group has struck a deal for two home health agencies in the Texas market. Charter Health is acquiring Genesis HospiceCare and Saints Hospice for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 1995, Genesis HospiceCare has provided high-quality hospice care to patients and families in the Athens, Texas, community for more than 25 years while Saints Hospice has served the Plano community for 15 years.
