OptimizeRx (NYSE: OPRX), a digital patient communication company, ramped up its platform last week with the acquisition of RMDY Health for $16 million. RMDY offers a SaaS platform that provides a complete digital framework to help life science and healthcare stakeholders design and launch their own white-label collaborative digital care and patient support programs. The company’s web and mobile platform supports a wide range of digital therapeutic initiatives, with a focus on care and chronic disease management, among others. For 2019, the company has an estimated annual revenue of $3 million.

The acquisition adds three new client segments to OptimizeRx’s existing patient engagement platform – payers, medtech and medical associations. It also follows OptimizeRx’s purchase of CareSpeak Communications, another patient communication platform.

OptimizeRx bought CareSpeak for $9 million, but the deal expanded its EHR-embedded messaging platform so that pharma-providers can communicate directly with patients. CareSpeak’s cloud-based solution supports patient adherence to medications by providing real-time access to financial assistance, prior authorization, education, and critical clinical information.

As we reported in a story about Experian Health’s acquisition of MyDirectHealth, patient engagement and communication platforms have been driving digital health transactions. Also announced this week, TrialCard Incorporated, a digital health solutions company that assists patients with medication management and prescription costs, acquired Mango Health.

Mango Health is a digital platform that gives payers and manufacturers patient engagement tools to help patients manage their medication on a daily basis. This acquisition provides TrialCard with a new patient engagement platform for its digital health solutions. Non-adherence to medications leads to a loss of nearly $300 billion each year in the healthcare industry. No financial terms were disclosed.

In late August, DocsApp acquired DocWise, a platform that helps doctors optimize their post-consultation patient engagement such as managing follow-ups and manage avoidable patient clinic visits. This acquisition expands DocsApp’s physician network and improves its patient engagement services.
