Lumos Diagnostics Bolsters its POC Testing Platform

Lumos Diagnostics, a subsidiary of Planet Innovation, announced this week it acquired RPS Diagnostics for an undisclosed price. RPS develops, manufactures and markets rapid, point-of-care diagnostic tests for a variety of infectious diseases and inflammatory conditions. The merged company will be called Lumos Diagnostics. This deal adds RPS’s FebriDx test, a rapid, in-office test that provides clinicians with a rapid assessment of the body’s immune response to an acute respiratory infection. Community Health Systems Sells Three More Hospitals

Community Health Systems (NYSE: CYH) is still at it. The financially troubled hospital chain unloaded three more hospitals in May, bringing the number of divested facilities in 2019 to seven. The latest announcements involved two Florida hospitals, Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center (193 beds) in Davenport and Lake Wales Medical Center (160 beds) in Lake Wales, along with their respective assets, physician clinic operations and outpatient services. Slowly but surely, WELL Health Technologies Corp. (TSX.V: WELL) is building its own digital health platform. The Canadian healthcare operator announced it acquired OSCARprn for $876,000. Financial details include $619,500 upfront and $256,500 via 373,906 shares in the capital of WELL at a price of approximately $0.69 per share. After securing a licensing deal with  Cocrystal (NASDAQ: COCP) for proprietary influenza A/B antiviral agents in January, the company found two biotechnology start-ups to bolster its cancer treatment portfolio. Advanced Wound Care Firm Acelity Grabbed for $6.7 Billion

3m Company (NYSE: MMM), the global conglomerate, announced in early May it purchased Acelity Inc. for $6.7 billion, or roughly 11.4x EBITDA.  The target is a medical device consortium comprised of Apax Partners, affiliates of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, is selling Acelity. Acelity develops advanced wound care products and specialty surgical applications marketed under the KCI brand name. The company reported a revenue of $1.5 billion in 2018.
