ICON Acquires PRA Health Sciences

The contract research organization giant ICON plc (NASDAQ: ICLR) is growing its market reach through the acquisition of PRA Health Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRAH). The deal is valued at $12 billion, with the per share merger consideration consisting of $80 in cash and 0.4125 shares of ICON stock. The consideration represents an approximately 30% premium to PRA’s closing price as of February 23, 2021. Charles River Laboratories Acquires Cognate BioServices

Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. (NYSE: CRL) is significantly boosting its capabilities with a new acquisition. The research giant is buying Cognate BioServices, Inc. from EW Healthcare Partners for $875 million. The acquisition and associated fees are expected to be financed through Charles River’s existing credit facility and cash. Thermo Fisher Acquires Henogen S.A.

After a surprise collapse of its takeover bid for QIAGEN N.V. (NYSE: QGEN), Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO) is back with a new deal in 2021. Thermo Fisher is buying Henogen S.A. from Groupe Novasep SAS for approximately EUR 725 million ($877.5 million) in cash. In an effort to focus on its growing retail pharmacy division, a network of more than 9,000 stores, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBA) is selling its Alliance Healthcare business to AmerisourceBergen Corporation (NYSE: ABC). The deal, valued at $6.5 billion, is comprised of $6.275 billion in cash and 2 million shares of AmerisourceBergen common stock for a majority interest. Tenet Healthcare Sells Urgent Care Business

Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC)  is having a busy holiday season. Early in December, the Texas-based health system purchased a portfolio of 45 ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) from SurgCenter Development for $1.1 billion. Now, Tenet Healthcare is unloading a bulk of its urgent care platform in a deal valued at $80 million in order to focus on its ASC business.
