One of Ohio’s major health systems has further expanded its reach in the state. In December, OhioHealth finalized negotiations with Van Wert Health and Guernsey Health Systems and added both systems under its banner. The deals add two hospitals, more than 100 beds and a collection of physician groups, outpatient clinics and home health operations to OhioHealth’s network. OhioHealth now owns and operates 14 hospitals in total.

Van Wert Health is anchored by the 34-bed Van Wert Hospital. It also has four outpatient centers and physician practices. The organization generated $59.6 million in revenue and nearly $13 million in EBITDA in 2021.

Guernsey Health Systems is a health system anchored by Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Ohio, an 84-bed hospital. It also owns Superior Med Physicians and United Ambulance. Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center is Guernsey County’s largest employer, serving more than 100,000 patients annually. The system generated approximately $100 million in revenue and $15.6 million in EBITDA in 2021.

OhioHealth and Guernsey Health Systems’ working relationship began in 2018 when the health systems entered into a five-year management agreement to provide leadership and management to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

As part of joining OhioHealth, Guernsey Health Systems’ name will be retired, and Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center’s new name will become OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center. United Ambulance will become OhioHealth Southeastern Ambulance. Superior Med will be called OhioHealth Physician Group
