One of the largest health systems in the southeastern United States is growing its presence in a new hospital acquisition. Orlando Health, a not-for-profit health system with $8.1 billion of assets under management, has acquired Regional Medical Center (RMC), a regional hospital based in Anniston, Alabama.
No specific terms of the merger were disclosed, but Juniper Advisory, which worked with RMC in this deal, stated in their press release that “Orlando Health is expected to invest significant resources to enhance facilities, technology, and clinical capabilities, supporting physician recruitment, expanding specialty services, and improving access to care throughout Northeast Alabama.”
RMC is one of the region’s largest employers, supported by more than 1,800 team members, 300 volunteers, and more than 200 physicians across a broad range of specialties. It has 295 beds and, according to the latest cost report data available at the time of the announcement, generated nearly $175 million in net patient revenue. However, it reported a nearly $28 million EBITDA loss, indicating the hospital needed a larger partner to help stabilize its financials.
Under the agreement, RMC will become part of Orlando Health’s Alabama Region. All current employees will transition to Orlando Health on day one, with their existing titles and pay. Orlando Health has a growing presence in Alabama following its 2024 acquisition of Baptist Health in Birmingham, with more than 1,700 licensed beds, 58 primary and specialty care clinics, 2,600 affiliated physicians, and more than 6,100 team members.
