Inspira Health Network, a charitable nonprofit health care organization in New Jersey, has a new system under its banner. The health system has announced Salem Medical Center will be joining its network. Salem Medical Center is an 87-bed facility owned by Salem County Hospital Corp., a not-for-profit that was formed to acquire the facility from publicly traded Community Health Systems Inc.
The hospital was purchased in 2019 and valued the facility at $1 million. Salem Medical Center recently added a 26-bed Behavioral Health Unit and offers a variety of healthcare services. In 2019, the hospital generated $53 million in net patient revenue but recorded an operating loss of nearly $1 million. The revenue and EBITDA were disclosed in Salem County Hospital Corp.’s 2019 tax return, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Inspira Health is a regional leader in physician training, with approximately 160 medical residents and fellows in 10 nationally accredited specialty programs. The system, which traces its roots to 1899, comprises three hospitals, two comprehensive cancer centers, several multi-specialty health centers and a total of more than 150 access points. These include urgent care; outpatient imaging and rehabilitation; sleep medicine labs; cardiac testing facilities; digestive health and wound care centers; home care and hospice; and more than 35 primary and specialty physician practices in Gloucester, Cumberland, Salem, Camden and Atlantic counties.
Salem Medical Center will join the Inspira Health Network. The transaction is expected to be completed following review and approval by the New Jersey Attorney General in 2022. The Salem Medical Center Board of Trustees voted unanimously to become part of Inspira. The new name of the hospital will be Inspira Medical Center – Salem.
