Kaiser Permanente Buys ASC in Lancaster, California

Oakland, California-based Kaiser Permanente announced that it has acquired its first ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in southern California. The ASC, Antelope Valley Surgery Center, is a multispecialty outpatient center in Lancaster, California. The 12,500-square-foot ASC provides services including general surgery, gynecological cases, eye surgery, head and neck, podiatry, orthopedic and plastic surgery. Kaiser Permanente Acquires Geisinger Health, Launching Risant Health

Kaiser Permanente announced on April 26 that it was acquiring Geisinger Health, which will join Risant Health, a new nonprofit organization created by the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. Geisinger Health comprises 10 hospitals, as well as a health plan with more than half a million members. The Danville, Pennsylvania-based health system has 25,000 employees and more than 1,700 physicians. Kaiser Permanente is among the country’s largest nonprofit systems with 39 hospitals. Hospital Mergers Point to the Future of Health Systems

Hard on the heels of the merger announcement between Dignity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives  came the news that Ascension Health and Providence St. Joseph Health were in their own talks to merge. The Dignity/CHI deal will create a 139-hospital system spanning 28 states, with revenue of more than $28 billion. If the Ascension/Providence merger is realized, the resulting company would be the largest hospital system, with 191 hospitals in 27 states, and annual revenue of $44.8 billion. Kaiser Permanente Acquires Group Health Cooperative

Kaiser Permanente, the California healthcare provider and insurer, announced it will acquire Seattle-based Group Health Cooperative. The price of $1.8 billion will create a new community foundation in Washington state. Group Health covers approximately 590,000 members. It will become Kaiser’s eighth region, joining Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Mid-Atlantic states (Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia), Northern California, Northwest (Orgegon and southern Washington) and Southern California.
