U.S. Renal Care Gets Big New Backers

U.S. Renal Care has new owners, as of February 13. It marks the first renal-related transaction in 2019 and it won’t be the last. The national dialysis provider was backed by a consortium of private equity firms such as Leonard Green & Partners, Frazier Healthcare Partners, New Enterprise Associates and Cressey & Company. Stepping in to take over is Bain Capital Private Equity, Summit Partners and Revelstoke Partners, with participation by the company’s executive management team. PE Firms Go in Big for Dental Deals

Buying dental practices has been a competitive sport for a few years now, especially among private equity firms. Eighteen deals for dental practices have been announced through July 20 this year (no prices, of course). In all of 2017,  30 deals for dental practices were announced, with the buyers either private equity firms getting in on the action, or making add-on acquisitions. Last year’s consolidations have become large platforms today. Deal of the Week: Concentra/Dignity Health

Even as it continues merger talks with the troubled hospital chain, Catholic Health Initiatives, Dignity Health sold its rehabilitation and occupational health division, U.S. HealthWorks for $753 million. The acquirer, Concentra Group Holdings, is jointly held by Select Medical Corporation (NYSE: SEM), Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe and minority equity shareholders including Cressey & Company. The combination will bolster both companies’ urgent care platforms as new payment models push for care delivery outside of hospital setting.
