Olympus Corporation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire BioProtect Ltd., an Israel-based medical device company specializing in biodegradable implant technologies for prostate cancer radiation therapy. The $270 million acquisition, with certain amounts held in escrow for a period dependent on uninterrupted operation of the business, is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of calendar year 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. An upfront purchase price was not disclosed.

Established in 2004 and headquartered in Israel, BioProtect is a medical device manufacturer focused on empowering healthcare providers with its biodegradable rectal spacer balloon product, elevating prostate cancer care and enhancing patient quality of life. According to the original deal press release from May 26, 2026, the company has 130 employees and generated a revenue of approximately $14.5 million in 2025.

The acquisition expands Olympus’ urology and oncology portfolio with a differentiated solution that complements its endoscopy-enabled technologies and strengthens its position in the growing rectal spacer market. BioProtect will integrate into Olympus’ Surgical and Interventional Solutions Division while maintaining focus on innovation in prostate cancer care.
