Geisinger has acquired Central Juniata Emergency Medical Services (CJEMS), a community-based emergency medical services (EMS) provider serving Juniata County in central Pennsylvania. The acquisition follows months of discussion and planning with community-based EMS partners and local leaders and was initiated at the request of Juniata County EMS organizations facing increased demand, workforce challenges and growing complexity in patient care needs. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The move enables Geisinger to more closely coordinate care from the field to the hospital while strengthening — not replacing — the broader EMS ecosystem across central Pennsylvania. CJEMS provides emergency and non-emergency medical transportation in the region and will continue serving local communities. Transition efforts are underway to ensure seamless operations for patients, EMS staff and clinical teams.

EMS transport at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital began on May 3, 2026. Geisinger operations at CJEMS will officially begin in early July 2026. The acquisition is designed to provide CJEMS staff with greater job stability, competitive benefits and expanded training opportunities while improving overall emergency services sustainability in the region.

According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this deal marks the third medical transportation services deal of 2026. Other deals in the space this year include Coastal Medical Transportation Systemsacquisition of Alert Ambulance Service and Grant Avenue‘s acquisition of PatientCare EMS Solutions.
