Major retailer QuikTrip announced that it is selling its MedWise business to healthcare provider Saint Francis Health System.

The sale includes nine MedWise facilities in Oklahoma, nearly all of which are located near the retailer’s headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Saint Francis is a Catholic, not-for-profit health system anchored by Saint Francis Hospital, a 1,112-bed tertiary care center. The health system includes a children’s hospital, a heart hospital, Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital Vinita.

This sale marks the end of QuikTrip’s roughly six-year experiment in urgent care, a venture that launched at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The retailer opened its first MedWise clinic in the fall of 2020 in Coweta, Oklahoma, about 30 miles east of downtown Tulsa. In the years that followed, QuikTrip stepped up its commitment to the clinics and laid out plans to reach 15 locations in the Tulsa area while exploring expansion into nearby markets such as Wichita, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri. By the close of 2023, the company was operating 14 MedWise sites across Oklahoma.

QuikTrip’s decision to step away from the business comes as the convenience-store industry contends with a tough economic climate. Store visits have slowed while shoppers cut back on spending amid higher living costs, and oil prices have climbed sharply because of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

A sale price was not disclosed, but QuikTrip said it will direct the proceeds back to MedWise employees through avenues like retention bonuses.

“This transition will allow MedWise employees to continue to grow and succeed by leveraging Saint Francis Health System’s highly respected hospital network and clinical scale to provide excellent care to Oklahomans,” a QuikTrip spokesperson said.

The deal does not include QuikMed, QuikTrip’s network of internal primary care facilities for company employees, which remains operational.

According to data in the LevinPro HC database, this deal marks the fourth urgent care transaction of the year. There were 13 urgent care transactions announced in 2025, and 20 announced in 2024.
