Health Solutions, a Colorado-based non-profit behavioral health provider, has acquired Mind Springs Health, a private non-profit organization offering mental health, behavioral change, and substance abuse services across Western Colorado. The transaction was announced on April 7, 2025, with Mind Springs being rebranded as Health Solutions West. As part of the deal, Health Solutions has assumed operations of Mind Springs, with Jason Chippeaux, CEO and President of Health Solutions, also serving as CEO of Health Solutions West. The acquisition ensures continuity of care for Mind Springs’ existing clients, with services continuing without interruption. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
About Mind Springs Health
Mind Springs Health is a private nonprofit organization that offers mental health, behavioral change, and substance abuse services with outpatient office locations across Western Colorado. Established in 1972 as “Colorado West,” the organization provides mental health services across Northwestern Colorado and plays a crucial role in the region, including establishing West Springs Hospital in 2005 when other psychiatric units were closing. The organization is based in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Financial Challenges Facing Mind Springs Health
The acquisition followed a period of significant financial difficulties and other challenges at Mind Springs Health. These challenges included ongoing financial problems, which were a primary driver for the takeover. This included a reported monthly shortfall of $55,000 for its detox program. Issues with Medicaid reimbursement and underutilization of facilities also contributed to financial woes.
In March 2025, just before the acquisition was announced, Mind Springs Health closed two significant facilities: its withdrawal management (detox) facility in Glenwood Springs, which had only been open for eight months, and West Springs Hospital in Grand Junction, the only inpatient psychiatric hospital on the Western Slope.
In 2022, a state audit of Mind Springs Health found issues such as dangerous prescription practices, failure to meet community mental health needs, a complex and non-transparent board structure, and potential conflicts of interest. There were also allegations of falsifying patient records. Community disappointment regarding access to and quality of care had been reported in previous years.
About Health Solutions
Health Solutions is a Colorado-based comprehensive, non-profit community medical and behavioral health treatment provider with centers in Pueblo, Huerfano, and Las Animas counties. The organization is headquartered in Pueblo, CO, and operates in the behavioral health care sector.
“For years, Health Solutions has built a trusted model of care in rural Colorado, meeting people where they are and supporting the whole person,” said Jason Chippeaux, CEO and President. “We are ready to bring that same commitment to Western Colorado – to earn trust, improve outcomes and create a safety net system that communities can count on.”
Strategic Rationale
Health Solutions has stated that it aims to provide stability and ensure continuity of care for existing clients. The new organization plans to retain staff and remain engaged with the community. The acquisition was seen as a critical step to address growing concerns from residents and local leaders about the availability, consistency, and quality of mental health services in the region.
Health Solutions West intends to build upon Mind Springs’ history while implementing its own trusted model of care.
