On October 21 OneOncology Inc., backed by TPG Capital and AmerisourceBergen, announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire Southeastern Medical Center (SMOC). 

SMOC is an oncology practice based out of three locations in North Carolina: Goldsboro, Clinton and Jacksonville. SMOC offers patients access to high-quality services along the cancer care continuum, including infusion therapy, clinical research, in-office drug dispensing and laboratory services. According to its website, there are five physicians on staff who are supported by a team of six advanced practice providers. 

OneOncology is a national network of independent community oncologists who assist partner practices in expanding their cancer care services. The company’s 1,000 cancer care providers care for approximately 615,000 patients at more than 339 sites nationwide. In April 2023, OneOncology was acquired by TPG Capital and AmerisourceBergen from General Atlantic

This transaction represents OneOncology’s sixth acquisition of 2024. According to the press release, SMOC is the third North Carolina oncology practice and the 25th practice nationally to join the OneOncology partnership. Terms were not disclosed. 

According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this acquisition marks the 391st Physician Medical Group and the 22nd in the oncology specialty. In all of 2023, 17 oncology transactions were announced. OneOncology has been the most active oncology acquirer in 2024.
