On October 14, Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Hologic, Inc. announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire Gynesonics, Inc. for $350 million.  

Founded in 2005 and based in Redwood City, California, Gynesonics develops and sells the Sonata System. The Sonata System is a technology intended for diagnostic intrauterine imaging and transcervical treatment of certain symptomatic uterine fibroids, including those associated with heavy menstrual bleeding.  

Hologic, Inc. develops, manufactures and sells premium diagnostic products, medical imaging systems and surgical products, primarily for women’s health. According to its most recent annual report, Hologic’s revenue for the twelve months ending December 31, 2023, was approximately $4 billion, and EBITDA was $992 million. The company was established in 1985.  

Completion of the acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of required regulatory approvals. This is Hologic’s second acquisition of 2024. In April, the company acquired Endomagnetics, which develops and sells breast surgery localization and lymphatic tracing technologies, for $310 million.
