MedSource Travelers announced on July 16 that it completed a merger with Austin, Texas-based Onyx Health Care Staffing. Both MedSource Travelers and Onyx have a national footprint with a strong geographic presence in both the Southeast and the West Coast.

Onyx Health Care Staffing provides travel nurse and allied healthcare staffing, as well as perm placement. The company offers comprehensive recruitment and staffing services across a broad spectrum to meet the needs of healthcare and educational organizations.

Founded in 2001, MedSource Travelers is a healthcare staffing firm headquartered in Safety Harbor, Florida. MedSource provides nursing and allied staffing as well as permanent placement. It has expertise in the cardiac specialty space and thousands of clients nationwide.

The transaction closed on June 15, and Onyx was merged into MedSource Travelers. Onyx’s Partner and CEO Paul Gunnoe will continue on as a partner and CEO of MedSource Travelers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“With the continued growing demand for nurse and allied healthcare professionals, this merger expands our national footprint and ability to continue to timely meet the needs of our partner-clients,” Gunnoe said in a press release.

According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this acquisition represents the seventh healthcare staffing transaction of 2024. Other acquirers in the space this year have been GQR, GHR Healthcare, Knox Lane, ShiftMed, Arthur Lawrence and Aya Healthcare. There were 29 healthcare staffing deals announced during 2023, and 35 announced during 2022.
