Brightside Health announced on June 12 that it will now offer virtual intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for substance use disorder (SUD). Brightside Health’s acquisition of Lionrock Recovery launched this new service, enabling the company to provide comprehensive telemental health treatment for a wider range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, alcohol use disorder and SUD.

Founded in 2010, Lionrock Recovery was an early pioneer in virtual substance abuse counseling. Lionrock Recovery takes a personalized approach to care and leverages technology to break down barriers for those struggling with alcohol and other substance use.

Brightside Health is an online mental health practice providing care for anxiety, depression and related conditions through personalized psychiatry and therapy services available to all 50 states. The San Francisco, California-based company provides care to individuals 13 years and older.

IOP for SUD is currently offered through Lionrock Recovery and will be officially integrated with Brightside Health in the coming quarters. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this acquisition represents the 107th eHealth transaction of 2024, and the 17th in the telehealth specialty. This is a decline from last year, when there were 133 eHealth and 27 telehealth deals announced between January 1, 2023, and June 12, 2023.
