Sanford Health announced its expansion into the Williston, North Dakota area with its recent acquisition of Great Plains Women’s Health Center.

Great Plains Women’s Health Center is a full-service practice that addresses the obstetric and gynecologic (OB/GYN) needs of women at every stage of life. According to its website, the practice has four providers on staff.

Sanford Health is one of the largest rural health systems in the nation. Headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the organization serves 1.4 million patients and nearly 200,000 health plan members across 250,000 square miles. The integrated health system has 45 hospitals, 211 clinic locations, more than 160 Good Samaritan Society senior living centers, 2,900 Sanford physicians and advanced practice providers, 540 active clinical trials and nine world clinic locations around the globe.

The transaction will be effective June 1, 2024. All existing Great Plains staff will be offered jobs and the opportunity to continue to provide care, as part of Sanford Health. Sanford Heath plans to continue offering women’s services in the clinic with the addition of primary and specialty care in the future. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this acquisition represents the 149th Physician Medical Group transaction of the year, and the seventh in the OB/GYN specialty. Other acquirers in the OB/GYN space this year have been First Fertility, Femwell, The Community Memorial, Fertility Centers of New England and Together Women’s Health. During 2023, there were 537 PMG and 28 OB/GYN deals announced.
