On April 4, MedLife announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Personal Genetics. With this, MedLife becomes the operator with the greatest expertise in the field of genetic sequencing and molecular biology and one of the largest networks of laboratories and collection centers nationwide, the company said in a filing to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Established in 2011, Personal Genetics is a Bucharest, Romania-based human medical genetics center with national coverage. The company offers advanced genetic diagnostic services for a wide range of conditions, in oncology, onco-hematology, gynecology and rare diseases. Personal Genetics has a network of 18 centers throughout Romania and multiple international certifications.
Established in 1996, MedLife provides healthcare services in Romania. It introduced online access to lab work results and medical files and conducts live 360 virtual reality brain surgery and interventional heart surgery using a hologram. The company has 230 hyperclinics and clinics, 17 hospitals, four maternity centers, 34 laboratories, 23 pharmacies and 18 dental clinics. MedLife also has 170 private clinic partners across Romania. MedLife has integrated 73 national and international companies since 2011.
The size of MedLife’s stake in Personal Genetics and the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MedLife expects strong market movements in the coming months and is considering more acquisitions of majority stakes.
According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this transaction represents the 38th Laboratories, MRI and Dialysis acquisition of 2024, and the 19th in the diagnostic specialty. There were 63 diagnostic transactions announced during 2023, and 70 announced during 2022.
