Illinois-based Northgate Technologies Inc. has announced its acquisition of Allotrope Medical to further its goal in optimizing the surgical environment for minimally invasive surgery. According to data captured in the LevinPro HC database, this acquisition represents the 39th Medical Devices transaction of the year.

Allotrope Medical is a Houston-based startup that has designed an electrosurgical ureter identification system for optimizing surgery for both robotic and non-robotic laparoscopic procedures. The StimSite technology is a hand-held device used by general and OB/GYN surgeons and has received a Safer Technologies Program designation from the FDA. Allotrope Medical was founded in 2016 by Dr. Albert Huang and the company has raised more than $5 million in venture capital investment, demonstrating the continued interest and support for early-stage medical device startups.

Northgate Technologies, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design and production of minimally invasive software controlled medical devices and specialty products for stone management and fluid management in surgical environments. Northgate Technologies is an affiliate of the Trudell Medical Limited group of companies. The company has distribution in more than 100 countries.

According to his LinkedIn, Dr. Huang is now chief medical officer for Northgate Technologies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
