In the first week of May, Waud Capital Partners’ portfolio company, GI Alliance, announced that it had acquired two separate gastroenterology practices; Digestive Health Specialists (DHS) in Kansas City, Missouri and Gastroenterology Consultants, based in Houston, Texas. Neither of the financial terms of the deals were disclosed.

GI Alliance, a portfolio company of Waud Capital Partners, provides operational support to more than 1,000 providers, including over 625 gastroenterologists and physicians and 670 advanced practice providers across 11 states. It was formed through Waud’s partnership with Texas Digestive Disease Consultants in November 2018.

DHS is a leading gastroenterology provider, and the largest independent practice in Missouri, consisting of 19 gastroenterologists and nine advanced practice providers across five locations. DHS was formed in 2015 through the merger of Consultants of Gastroenterology, Digestive Health Specialists of St. Joseph and Summit Gastroenterology.

Gastroenterology Consultants consists of nine physicians and six advanced practice providers who provide gastrointestinal care in six locations. It has offices in Ellington, St. John, Pasadena, Pearland, Clear Lake and League City, Texas. The physicians also deliver outpatient care at two endoscopy centers and an infusion center.

DHS is the first practice in Missouri and Kansas to join GI Alliance’s network of physician practices. Provident Healthcare Partners advised DHS in its partnership with GI Alliance.

The acquisition of Gastroenterology Consultants, which was announced two days after the DHS deal, brings GI Alliance’s total physicians in the greater Houston market to 35 gastroenterology physicians and more than 65 providers.

According to the LevinPro HC database, these acquisitions mark the fifth and sixth transactions for GI Alliance, the 182nd Physician Medical Group (PMG) transaction and the 15th gastroenterology deal of the year.  The recent transactions also make GI Alliance the most active acquirer of the year in the gastroenterology market. Other active acquirers have been Gastro Health, LLC with four deals and One GI with three transactions.
