Avantik Partners With Water Street, Appoints New CEO

Pine Brook, New Jersey-based Avantik has announced a partnership with strategic healthcare investor Water Street Healthcare Partners. Water Street has committed significant capital in addition to its diagnostics experience and network of relationships to advance the next phase of Avantik’s expansion. Working with Water Street, Avantik plans to invest in organic initiatives and acquisitions to expand its portfolio of consumables and equipment and enhance its maintenance and repair services. CROs Are Still Trending as Q4 Rolls On

In the first week of November, BioAgilytix Labs, LLC, a portfolio company of Riverside Partners, purchased Cambridge Biomedical. Both Cambridge and BioAgilytix are contract research organizations (CROs) that develop novel therapeutic biologics and biosimilars, specializing in large molecule bioanalysis. The transaction expands BioAgilytix’s global footprint and adds further capacity by joining Cambridge Biomedical’s CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited, and GLP-compliant facility with its GxP laboratories in Durham, North Carolina and Hamburg, Germany. eHealth Deals Remain Active in August

August proved to be another busy month for eHealth transactions. According to our Deal Search Online database, there were 18 acquisitions in the eHealth sector in July 2019, and 17 in August. The most popular targets this month were cloud-based and data-analytics providers. MedPlast Adds Integer’s Surgical and Orthopedics Lines

MedPlast Inc., a portfolio company of JLL Partners and Water Street Healthcare Partners, announced the largest deal in the Medical Device sector in May 2018. The company, which provides integrated custom plastic processing solutions for finished medical devices, acquired the advanced surgical and orthopedics lines (ASO) from Integer (NYSE: ITGR) for $600 million. The transaction includes 10 manufacturing facilities. The ASO business comprises products and services for the laparoscopy, general surgery, biopsy and drug delivery, arthroscopic devices and components and orthopedic markets. Vention Medical Inc. has undergone some major changes this year, and it’s still the first quarter. Vention, a portfolio company of KRG Capital Partners, designs and manufactures complex medical devices and components used in interventional and minimally invasive surgical products. As of February 20th, its two core business units were sold to separate companies. Vention Medical consisted of the Advanced Technologies (Vention AT) business and a separate Device Manufacturing Services (Vention DMS) business, a contract manufacturing operation.
