St. Christopher’s Hospital Goes to Auction in Philly

Yet another hospital bankruptcy has led to an auction and a sale. This time it was St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 188-bed hospital is a healthcare outpost in north Philly and one of only two children’s hospitals in the city. In 2018 it and Hahnemann University Hospital were sold by Tenet Healthcare (NYSE: THC) to California investment banker Joel Freedman, represented as American Academic Health Systems LLC (AAHS), for $170 million. Jefferson Health Adds Another Health System

Jefferson Health System, the not-for-profit system that is part of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, signed a definitive agreement to integrate with Kennedy Health, a three-hospital system (607 beds) in southern New Jersey. The transaction is expected to be completed following New Jersey’s Community Health Care Assets Protection Act review process. The boards of Kennedy and Jefferson unanimously approved the agreement, which extends the shared governance model that was established with the integration of Abington Health (January 2015) and Aria Health (July 2016). Jefferson Expands Again

Aria Health, a not-for-profit hospital system serving the residents of northeast Philadelphia and lower Bucks County, reached a definitive agreement with Jefferson, the system created last year through the merger of Jefferson Health and Abington Health. That transaction, announced in January 2015 and finalized in May, created an organization with five hospitals, 1,751 inpatient beds, seven outpatient centers and 3,370 physicians. This transaction with Aria adds three hospitals in Frankford, Torresdale and Oxford Valley with 485 licensed beds.
