Anthem Adds Beacon Health Options to its Behavioral Offerings

Even without a price disclosed, this is one of the biggest deals we’ll probably see in the Behavioral Health Care sector this year. Bain Capital Private Equity and Diamond Castle Holdings are selling Beacon Health Options, the largest independently held behavioral health organization in the country. The buyer is managed care giant Anthem, Inc. (NYSE: ANTM). BHC Sector Booms as Acadia Healthcare Explores a Sale

Mergers and acquisitions in the Behavioral Health Care sector are booming in 2018, with 68 transactions made public through mid-October, 21% higher than the total in 2017. Now comes the report that one of the sector’s largest publicly traded companies, Acadia Healthcare Company (NASDAQ: ACHC), is in talks with a few interested parties to sell itself, and most likely go private. As of Mid-September 2017, 52% of RCM targets were acquired by private equity firms or other PE-backed eHeath companies.  One Georgia-based RCM firm continues to thrive following an investment from Bain Capital. PE Firms Pay Big for Medical Transportation

KKR & Co., through its portfolio company, is the second private equity firm to pay more than $2 billion for a medical transportation company in 2017. The medical transportation market, falling under the “Other Services” category, has seen a couple of large deals in 2017, as some big name companies decide to change hands. On August 8, 2017, Envision Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: EVHC) announced it was selling its medical transportation subsidiary, American Medical Response (AMR), to Air Medical Group Holdings, Inc.
