Four deals in our Laboratories, MRI & Dialysis sector have been announced in the first half of November. That much activity constitutes a surge for this sector, which now stands at 39 deals through all of 2016. With only six weeks left in the year, it seems unlikely that this sector will surpass 2015’s total of 52 deals.
On November 1st, Vital Images, Inc., a subsidiary of Toshiba Medical Systems Group, acquired Karos Health for an undisclosed price. Karos Health provides standards-based clinical imaging exchange and cross-enterprise workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions. The combined technologies provide a customer-centric, modular platform that allows hospital systems to solve a broad set of enterprise imaging challenges.
On November 2nd, Bruker Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR) a designer and manufacturer scientific instruments, announced its acquisition of laboratory infrastructure and intellectual property in the NAT assay field, including real-time PCR assays for microbiology, from an undisclosed source in Glasgow. Bruker intends to validate and launch the real-time PCR assays which have been acquired, and develop new multiplex PCR panels on the MALDI Biotyper platform.
The next day, P4 Diagnostix™ Laboratory Network, whose name derives from its focus on predictive, preventative, personalized and participatory medical practices, acquired Metamark Laboratories, Inc. from MetaMark Genetics Inc., for an undisclosed price. Metamark Laboratories develops novel, function-based prognostic and diagnostic tests for urological cancer care. This acquisition gives P4 access to Metamark’s lead diagnostic product, ProMark®, the first proteomic classifier of biopsied prostate tissue that assesses whether an early-stage prostate tumor is aggressive or indolent, aiding important treatment decisions.
On November 10, 2016, California-based private investment firm Windjammer Capital Investors, acquired privately-held Advanced Instruments for an undisclosed price. Advanced Instruments designs, manufactures and markets instrumentation and associated consumables for clinical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, microbiology and dairy laboratories around the world.
